Columbia Public Schools And Missouri Department Of Conservation
The Boone County Nature School is the product of a years-long collaborative effort between Columbia Public Schools and the Missouri Department of Conservation. A generous donation of land by Vicki Russell and the late Hank Waters paved the way for CPS and the MDC to develop a partnership unlike any in the nation, working in tandem to bring environmental education and a love for the outdoors into the lives and learning of students in Boone County. Through funding from CPS, MDC, and our generous community, this vision has come to life at the Boone County Natures School!
In addition to financial support essential to the building project, the Missouri Department of Conservation also performs maintenance for the land, ecosystems, flora and fauna surrounding the Nature School. The MDC also provides curriculum and materials for outdoor education to the Nature School, with a dedicated MDC Educator stationed on-site to directly support students and staff visiting BCNS.
