The Boone County Nature School property is divided into two Zones.
BCNS staff are engaging students for 5th-grade nature academy. Therefore, activities and experiences during day trips are planned and run by staff from the sending school. As such, teachers wishing to utilize the Nature School for day trips should plan to execute all activities without assistance from BCNS staff. If available, BCNS staff will play a supportive role during your visit.
Before completing a trip request, check the BCNS calendar to ensure availability.
ZONE 1: 5th Grade Nature Academy
Zone 1 contains the Nature School building, Council House, and all BCNS property north of the road. This includes the 20-acre field upon which the building sits, the north pond, the north prairie, and access to a forest ecosystem north of BCNS property.
Zone 1 is reserved for 5th grade programming.
ZONE 2: Field Trip
Zone 2 contains all of the BCNS property south and west of the road and includes the pavilion and associated restrooms, the south pond, the south prairie, and trails through the west pine forest. A trail from Zone 2 also leads into the Three Creeks Conservation Area.
During the school year, Zone 2 will be primarily utilized for day trips for any Boone County school.
You are responsible for the planning the activities and bringing the supplies. Contact your county conservation educator if you would like support.
